1. Public Relations: Identification of needs to improve work performance As a working professional, you need to see yourself both as an individual and as an employee working for a team. As an individual you can measure yourself by Abraham Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. It is a psychological concept that individuals need to keep in mind for assessing themselves. The diagram below depicts the 5 types of needs that individuals strive for. According to the above diagram, individuals who are looking for morality, creativity and who are factual persons are at the top most tiers. Second best are those that look for achievement, respect and are confident individuals. The lowest most are those only interested in sensual gratification. By this estimate you can identify where you are at the present and work towards improving yourselves. Working towards improvement doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to ape others who are better than you. Instead, it means to take a thorough and honest look at yourselves and identify your weak areas. Once you improve as an individual, you will exercise the right influence on those around you and you will also emerge as a great leader. As a PR professional you are expected to be a good communicator, good designer (for Marketing Communications like brochures etc), good writer (Press Releases, E-mailers) and a good manager. If you have a team working for you, you also have to be a good motivator and for this you have to display a certain level of integrity and honesty. Many times we look for practical solutions. But at all times, you cannot compromise on the quality of your product, just to meet deadlines. You have to produce the highest quality product in the least time possible and that calls for efficient time management skills also. For freshers, this is probably too much to grapple with. But start out slow and steady instead of hurried and unsure. It’s important to ask questions to your seniors. It is also important to be pro-active and look for ways to enhance your performance. By no means should you doubt your seniors, but you can voice your difference of opinion in a positive way. Never rubbish or challenge your boss. It is a waste of time, as, let’s face it, no matter how good you are, your boss always knows more than you and it’s a misnomer if you believe that you are better than your boss. Even if this doubt creeps in, give your boss time to settle things and never try to grab his job and chair away from him. This is the worst strategy to adopt as you will come across as a brash and arrogant individual instead of a diplomatic team player. Nowadays, there is a trend to grab your team-mates’ jobs. This is not healthy at all and just shows that you are a bully and overly aggressive individual. Keep this diagram in mind and watch how you bloom in our current job. But remember, for any results, you have to make effort and nothing comes easy.

This is peculiar to Gujaratis. They will say and assert the opposite of what's there and reality and go out of their way to prove their bizarre stand. They dont seem to follow common logic, rationality or even sane ideas anymore. |
Gujaratis are doing nothing to belong to the national fabric of the country. They continue to exist as separate, isolated identitites, and it will make no difference if they really are removed. Also, most gujarati businessmen are in it for personal... |
