Sun has come up with StorageTek 9990 system .Virtualization lets storage administrators manage heterogeneous storage systems.
The main use is that it allows the user to abstract the physical from the logical.
By this technique , Virtualizing storage allows the user to move data around easily and allocate it to the most appropriate storage device, a task that can be extremely time-consuming.
Storage virtualization has the ability to pool storage and treat it as a utility resource that can be carved up into volumes and provision different applications.
It has proved useful for smaller organizations who want to optimize storage capacity but not beneficial for the smaller organizations.
The return on investment comes in maximizing the use of whatever disk media you have and getting maximum utilization and efficient allocation so that you don't have to buy as often as your storage expands.
So, this virtualization process has value and could prove very useful .
