Ratan Tata's purported remarks expressing surprise at fellow industrialist Mukesh Ambani living in a billion-dollar mansion in Mumbai has sparked off a controversy today.

Well it is his house and his moeny in first place and then why to give any statement which may end u in some controversy?

The Tata group Chairman was quoted by London's Times newspaper as having said, "It makes me wonder why someone would do that. That's what revolutions are made of. The person who lives in there should be concerned about what he sees around him and [asking] can he make a difference.

He added that this country needs people to allocate some of their enormous wealth to finding ways of mitigating the hardship that people have.

When a person reaches at certain height he has to be kind and noble.. remarking on other people and saying more doing less does not make a good reputation..

Let them decide what is to be displayed or not?
Both are grown up in different condition & in different community.
May be it is the right thought from Mr. Ratan Tata's point of view, but Mr. Muksh have every liberty to differ from it.
Thanks for referral, Darshana.

Tata made one more remark - that to leave in such a house, Mukesh must be feeling sad internally...This is the more important remark. Human body when it suppresses an emotion, projects a different action in a big way. Is Tata right in speculating that Mukesh is sad inside?
Mukesh is a wonderful entrepreneur. It is better to teach a person to fish than offer him a fish. I would rate Mukesh as one of the biggest who uses his resources very productively. He has contributed immensely to national productivity. That way, the vulgar display in the house is tolerable.
He is into financial services also and many an entrepreneur has benefited. This could be given due weightage too.
I have however heard that internal management is defective in a reliance enterprise. It is said that the management philosophy is not open ended. Well, I do not know...

It is not at all fair in part of Mr TATA commenting on MD OF RIL, largest private company having highest market capitalisation and more than lakh shareholders supporting it to their way to success.
TATAs have always been very active in donating their share of profit for social welfare of the people but RIL had never utlised their profit share for welfare of local people but instead they have benefited their shareholders by means of high dividend yield or diverting the good chunk of profit in the expansion projects or diversifying their business. It simply depends on the company's policies and that is the reason a small fabric manufacturing company got transformed to biggest business group of India in four decades.
What Mr. Ambani does with his money is his business as long as he is not harming the nation. By cnstructing his house in some ways he has also created a few jobs and added great value to their brand equity.

While one is entitled to one's opinion, to publically deride someone is uncalled for. What Mr. Ambani does with his money is his business as long as he is not harming the nation. By cnstructing his house in some ways he has also created a few jobs albiet for a short while.

There is nothing wrong in it but on the other hand Mr Mukesh Ambani has generated so many employments in making of the house and now maintaining this house.I heard that the House Manager is getting Handsome six figure salary! This way Mukeshbahi is sharing fruits of his income with his employees. And this is far batter than hiding two no money in Swiss Banks! Finally he is rolling economy by spending his money.
It surprises us how this simple logic has not comes in the mind of the Great Gujrati Ratan Tata.It seems that some miss interpretation of Tata's statement.

Sombody has to highlight such kind of issue but not only for one business tycon but for all the people who just forget that this country really need lot of support to upbringing their life & for the welfare of the society & nation.

Thanks,Darshana for bringing out real fissure in corporate world. At the same time,Mukesh Ambani's splurge and Tata's comments are real time story. The show of wealth has become norm right from the top to the bottom. Tata's concern is genuine but it should match what they are doing for the poor.

1. Mr. Ratan Tata has merely voiced what any common man thinks. Spending your hard earned money is one thing ; spending it in this manner is another thing altogether. It is a vulgar show of one's wealth , totally out of tune with India's culture. People who support Mr. Ambani's act , can go through the following link to see how Mr. Warren Buffet , despite being among the wealthiest people on this planet , lives :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_Buffett

2. Mr. Ambani's wealth is not something which he has earned by the sweat of his brow. A major share has come to him as an inheritance ; it is his father who has made these riches possible. A second reason for this wealth of his , is the efforts put in by the thousands of Reliance employees. A third is the benefits the organization has enjoyed from the government. So to say that this is his wealth , to do as he pleases , is not the truth.

3. Lastly , whether Mr. Ratan Tata has said it or not , is besides the point. The world is saying it ! All of us , in our hearts , feel that Mr. Ambani could have used this amount in a wiser , probably more beneficial manner.

He has rightly pointed out the ills of the rich to the society & remained him that they need to be Philanthropic. Unless a rule like SCR comes, they do not want to spare their wealth for the poor / society. He is right at pointing out that a few rich are RULE-DRIVEN & NOT REALLY MIND DRIVEN.

In one of Tamil poem, a similey was given, " You know the size of Rice-ball given to feed the Elephants. A quite huge ball of rice is fed into the mouth by the mahout. But the Elephant that was eating away does not care , even if a few rices are falling from the ball. But, those rice fell from its mouth can feed thousands of ants survival. Thus, like this Elephant that does not care about the few drop, rich need to be. So that a few poor can survive as ants survive from the drop."

It's Tata's comments about Ambani's action. Why are we getting to agitated? Tatas and Ambanis have always had differing views about their responsibilities towards the society. Tatas are philanthrophists, whereas Ambanis do not do a thing without a quid pro quo.

Long time back, around the time when Tata Football Academy was set up, there was an interview in Doordarshan of a few industry stalwarts about aiding sports to flourish in the country. Ambanis' (represented by Anil) answer was that they would really like to contribute, but there must be tax breaks for them to do anything. Tatas' (represented by Russy Modi) answer was, if you wish to do something, you go ahead and do it. You do not look at whether you are getting a tax break or any other subsidy from the Government. This was the spirit behind setting up the TFA.

Ya i am agree with Arvind, its National wealth so ambani dont have any right to waste it like this? I dont think anything wrong abt Rantajee's statement.
If some one doing wrong things its our duty to show the person tht he is doing wrong.
In India villages fecing load sheding for more then 17 hrs in the day, that electricity we can use other areas.

In acient time the king made kingdom which secured from the enemy to save his kingdom and it was open to general public during emergency.

In today there are uncounted individual kingdoms and constructions which are used only for personal fantacy, passion or for reputation without knowing there are people living in the same area without any roof, or on footpath.

Tsta's remark is a truth..........

Unbelievable Ratan Tata did make this comment! Mukesh Ambani's mansion would be a great inspiration for common man to work hard and reach higher up the ladder. Mitigating the hardship of the people is the duty of the govt. it would be boring and uninspiring to advise those who have worked their way to allocate their wealth to charity. Are we heading backwards? even china and russia have detached themselves of this theory!
