There is an ugly drama that is unfolding in Bangalore where top telecom provider is being taken to courts by a Techie who had been arrested  due to the wrong information provided by Airtel, and is now sueing Airtel for Rs. 20 crores. Airtel had given wrong information to the police which forced the techie to go to jail. He spent 50 days in jail. and said that they were the most horrible days and said that one can't measure the trauma which I went through, my family went through he says Lakshman Kailash, a 28 year old engineer to CNN-IBN.

Kailash who was a successful software engineer with HCL and was working in Bangalore. Two years ago, a Police team from pune had arrested him for 'defaming Shivaji' in a picture he was supposed to have put up on Orkut. Police was fed with wrong IP address by Airtel, who searched for the IP for two days. The police traced the IP, which belonged to Kailash and arrested him and did not let him go even after they found the real culprits behind the act.

The Maharashtra Human Rights Commission has asked Airtel to cough up Rs. 2 lakh as compensation, but Airtel has not done anything so far. Now, its top executives have been summoned by a magistrate court in Bangalore.

Since Airtel has not paid any kind of compensation so far, Kailash has moved to National Consumer Disputes Forum and now is  seeking  a compensation of Rs. 20 crores. And the reason given for such a huge amount as compensation is like he is saying "you can't scale those horrible moments in money. I feel it's a less amount with respect to the trauma I went through because I have to carry it throughout my life".

So what do you think guys Should Airtel provide the compensation that Kailash is asking for? share your views on this.

Airtel should give the compensation. When it has done a mistake, it should face the consequences....

I still wonder how the private sector firms like AirTel can be that careless while providing the sensitive information. This is an eye opener for AirTel and other private bodies. Amount is not important here; for that matter, the amount is still less against the mental torture the techie had.

This is a very good step taken by Techie. Airtel and all those government agencies who are stealing sleep of the customers should pay now for what they have been doing...

Not only AirTel but also the Police who were reluctant to release him after the truth became known should be taken to task.

YES YES YES. This is a very good example for every consumer who is getting nightmares by various so called professional companies. Airtel & all other Govt. authorities who has played a role in this negligence must pay.

I support Mr. Lakshman Kailash. Airtel should cough up the 20 Cr rupees that has been demanded. A service provider cannot provide information to law enforcement agencies out of negligence.

Absolutely Airtel should give it to him. He deserves though 20 crores is nothing against the trauma he and his family have gone thru.
