I have a friend who is animal activist and have come to know about this fact from her.

The breed dogs which you see were exported in the past. Later the male and female breed dogs were breed ( made to mate ) on purpose to sell their pups ( for high rates ) to anyone who has the money to buy. These people who buy the pup for their good looks and cuteness later abandon them. Since they are sold to anyone with money, they don’t get if the buyer would take good care of the pets or not.

Indian dogs are a native of India. They are in India all their lives from the past till date, just like us Indians. But since they are local and the breed dogs make people feel like having high standard, people prefer breeds over Indian dogs. If u see, breed dogs suffer in Indian heat, they are not suited to our environment. Pugs especially became a hit because of the Vodafone ad and they cannot bear our heat. They have huge heart and cannot run too much, as it might cause then pain in the heart. No one knows about it, but they but pugs and torture them!

In India, pet breeding and selling has become a multi crore business. The female dog is made to breed again and again and again and again.. and each pup is sold , the rate rangers from 500 to 25000!!

These desi dogs referred to as Mongrels or Indian Dogs are used to our climate, have better health and are more resistant to diseases compared to breeds. The population in Chennai alone crosses more than 2 lakhs of Indian dogs. They need to get adopted and the population has to be controlled in the streets by ABC program ( animal birth control ) which is being done by all local animal organizations. By birth control, more pups are avoided from being abandoned in the streets. Several of these poor little  pups end up getting killed by vehicles ( terribly painful death ) or die because of starvation or dehydration ( due to lack of clean water ). They get skin disease due to lack of nutrients ( they don’t even get a morsel of food a day ), imagine ourselves without food for days together, we can’t even walk right? These poor animals are forced to die daily because no one helps them!

Finally the people are opening their eyes and have started adopting Indian Dogs! Its discrimination just like how Blacks are not wanted and whites are preferred. Breeds are preferred over mongrels because its considered a status symbol. Educated people shun such discrimination and now take up a mongrel as their pet!

Every city in India has an animal welfare organization which are struggling to save animals as the population is too much!

There are certain deadly diseases like canine distemper and Parvo virus and rabies because of which these pups die horribly. They need to be vaccinated against diseases when they are a month old. Because they don’t have a mother ( the mother’s milk protects the babies ) , they are more prone to such diseases which don’t have a cure really!

So will you come ahead for the cause?

These dogs are called Pariah and Indian Dogs... I am proud to say I have adopted one and still loooking to adopt more... :D

They are smart, cute and damn loving, quite naughty though...

ABC just aims bringing down the urban population of these dogs... the best way to keep one of the oldest breeds of dogs (indian) is by adopting them...

Pls search Pariah dog or INDog for more details... There are a lot of us who actively campaign and research bout these dogs...

Well friends as all of you have mentioned and the aforesaid story itself confirms that dogs have been bred and adopted or petted on the basis of their original bloodline or good bloodline traits. All over the world dogs are fascinated on basis of their lineage; be it purposeful breeding and crossbreeding for centuries or naturally originated bloodlines. All of this due to sheer utilization of 'Man's Best Friend' for man's own benefit. So what does a man do after deriving the benefits.....Forget it...Human nature (in general). As said so done. However we tend to call all street dogs mongrels and as said in the write up that educated people now shun discrimination and adopt mongrels as their pets. Here is the interesting part; there have existed separate dog breeds in India alone, not brought in by foreigners. They were petted then but as it turns out, we are more fond of the western breeds. I am adding website and a blog links for better & detailed information on the INDIAN Dog breeds. If we have the knowledge and can share it with all then I believe understanding and love for Indian dogs will help sort the problem we are facing now.

Thanks,Sneha for referral. The debate you started "DESI v/s VIDESHI".The population of local dogs is increasing because of love for 'foreign dogs'.The core difference is their method of breedings.Though I am no expert, but there is no such institution in India for effecting improvement in Indian dogs. As we are wont to,for every thing new we are dependent upon foreigners. Let municipalities should help these dogs and control their population. In 'C' class cities and lower, they are performing as scavengers and are dependent for their life on left overs.

I think that those who love dogs(unlike me) should definitely adopt the Indian dogs, and help in controlling the dog population. This way, both the dog lovers and the other people will be happy.

Sorry to say but I alredy seen the dog biting incidences taken place in our city, because of this 2 small children were in the hospital & also know a Australian lady @ Mumbai near Shivaji Park, who is taking care of some street dogs only to taking illegal possession of the place.
Hence, I m not thinking of adopting any pet.
Thanks for referral, Sneha & Manish.

Our Municipal authorities should take initiative to control the incresing population of street animals. Also people should also help such animals by providing them good food and give them shelter. Thanks Miss Mehta for referral!
