Today I read these three diferrent news story related to environment.

1. Desert geopark in China : What is a geopark ?

Geopark is a place where rare geological landforms are preserved in an undisturbed state and where low impact recreation, scientific research, and educational activities can be pursued.

The total planned area for this geopark is said to be 630.37 square km.

It will be functioning as a museum as well as as scientific research center.

2. World Car free day :

On September 22nd 200 cyclists celebrated World Car Free day by using cycles. This was an attempt to keep traffic jam and pollution at bay. Though the event went almost unnoticed and no similar effort was seen anywhere else.

I wonder why do such news go unnoticed when certain channels are busy showing what do star eat and how thye go to the gym and what do they wear. I was surprised to see zero comments in the article where I read this news. I wonder what kind of news do people normally look for?

3. Britan will be recycling diapers to make roof tiles :

A new technology will help them to do so. As British babies use around three billion disposable diapers every year it is important to develop a way to utilize the waste.

A company called Knowaste has opened a plant in West Bromwich where diapers collected from child nurseries, hospitals and nursing facalities will be recycled.

The product will be sterilized and highly valuable plastic and fibre will be recovered from them.

Oh. great news. Miss Sujatha I can understand your concern. But, people are accustomed to certain kinds of facilities, they dont want to look back. So, the meek response for such moves. Recycling diapers for extracting valuable plastic and fibre is a good move in deed. China's move for establishing a geopark is amazing. It is also interesting to see how they can they acquire such huge land mass.

Great news, Good you share. I feel the main mistake from our media is they give importance to their circulation or TRP rating instead of social welfare. They are stating its media ethics but unfortunatly its bound within a certain range of celeb or political or cricket.Nothing else

What is the surprise in it?In Indian metros ,Public wants to be luxury, in return neighbors envy.I am rich.if I took a car to the next street to drink coffee. Here Cycle is not vanished even young people like to drive cycles, but our fly overs and motor cars, traffic convenience not allowing them.Public has to blame for all the things not media. because, public are in the envoy mood, they wants to be an american in INDIA.They forgot" When you are in SPAIN BE LIKE A SPANISH.They are Indian , living in INDIA ,but wants to live like an American, To Speak like an European

Thanks for the news. But people dont usually read or comment on such news because they look for sensational stuff and so do the media ! Blame it all on TRP's or Readership figures.

I think many people in metros & big cities are willing to use cycles for short distance commuting, but what we lack is a lane for cyclists. If the authorities provide a separate lane for cyclists, people will start using cycles & even the traffic may reduce to some extent.

However, if not because of environmental awareness, because of rising petrol & diesel prices, soon all Indians have to go for cycles, car pooling, public transport & similar options...

Guess we are oblivion to the innovations taking place across the globe, while our media is more focussed on trivial issues such wonderful and meaningful initiatives often go unnoticed.

It indicates the awareness of these countries towards environmental pollution and man made activities. We are also following some system but we are unable to implement the system in a proper way.A good example is our daily garbage's collected by local authority is dumped in a particular place causing diseases due to non recycling and incineration in that place causing air pollution etc

Thanks for the information Sujatha. I wonder when India will have these kinds of concerns towards our natural habitat and resources.

Well, the news is not so very unexpected as the knowledge it is presented in and the kind of meaning it is supposed to give - for example it says - "As British babies use around three billion disposable diapers every year..." :) sounds like the babies are first culpable here. Also, having cycles and using them for short distances when moving alone also means a positive effect on anyone's health.
Geoparks of course are created as we go on destroying larger amounts to our own purpose (38 sq. km as in this case appears large when not mentioning the hundreds of sq.kms being used up and overpopulated and natural diversity therin destroyed).. seems like there is a lot to be read between the lines.
