Maharashtra Legislative Council unanimously passed the historic Bill providing 50 percent reservation for women in Panchayats and Zilla Parishads.

The amendment to the Bombay Village Panchayats Act, 1958 and Maharashtra Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samiti Act, 1961 facilitates enhancing reservation from one third of the total seats to 50 per cent as members of the Village Panchayats and Panchayat samitis, Councillors of the Zilla Parishads and offices of Sarpanch and President of the Zilla Parishads and Chairpersons of the Panchayat Samitis.

There have been many discussions regarding the same in past , many have been against this but now it has been passed, So what do you say??

With this bill it surely will bring in some kind of women empowerment in the society, but hopefully along with it not more Sonias and Rabris. Anyway, to all the beautiful women, wheres the party tonight?

Thanks,Kavitha for a invite.I also join you to celebrate the status granted to women in Maharashtra. The above picture tells every thing that women have miles to go. The empowerment is slow but it is surely a step to recognize their contribution.

Congratulations! Already one women power is holding 100% power in the country, gyrating the learned, literates, semi-literates and the illiterates, and the other the First Lady, and one more, who is speaking on behalf of 543 lok sabha MPs!

Unless it comes with social empowerment & education, it will not make substantial difference. There will be 'Rabris' who will act as a proxy for 'Lalus' ofthe world. However, this is the moment women should strive for their rights.
