If someone doesn’t take us aside and teach us a few things (assuming we’d listen) before we graduate high school, we are doomed to learn life’s hardest lessons in the real world beyond the classroom. With that in mind, here are 21 non-academic lessons every person should know before he or she graduates high school; if you graduated long ago (as I did), this list represents all the things you wish you had been taught, yet had to learn (or are still learning) on your own.     Love and Relationships 1. Choosing a Mate:  Your ability to select a suitable spouse will greatly influence your financial and emotional well being, yet parents and teachers seldom mention it. A few common sense guidelin...

A must read article by author Stephen Covey.  Discover the 90/10 Principle.   It will change your life (at least the way you react to situations). What is this principle? 10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. What does this mean? We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%. How? ……….By your reaction. You cannot control a red light. but you can control your reaction. Don't let people fool you; ...

Most people complaining that “work sucks” do so because they picked the wrong career.  Instead of following their dreams, they followed a reliable (or convenient) market path.  When we reach adulthood, popular opinion encourages us to discard the fantasies of youth and pick one of the prefabricated career paths available at the local university or trade school.  But popular opinion is wrong. Following your dreams is the surest way to happiness, and I’m going to spend the rest of this article telling you why.   Maslow and Herzberg   In the middle part of the 1900’s, two psychologists published theories that greatly influenced the way I think about career satisfaction: Abraham Maslow and Fred...

Life is.... 'Leaving the house in the morning, dressed in clothes that you bought on credit card for work, driving through the traffic in a car that you are still paying for, putting in petrol that you cannot afford, in order to get to the job that you hate but need so badly so that you can pay for the clothes, car, petrol and the house that you leave empty the whole day, in order to live in it'

Subroto Bagchi, COO of MINDTREE CONSULTING makes some lovely points on what it takes to build an organization. Frankly in my view, it's the 'soul of the enterprise' that makes all the difference.Everything else is replacable. Business will follow if you cultivate the right culture. Ask yourself this question- Does your enterprise have a soul? Surely, your customers will know it, everytime your employees interact with them. May be you can start by asking them first. Be ready for a lot of suprises! If you then want to go back to the drawing board, you can start thinking with Subroto's advice: Being big is not about size, but about mindset - Let us imagine that you want to someday build a skys...
