Once this is done, one can transfer files, backup, download email etc. The most significant advantage of using USB is speed - one can get 73 to 113 kbytes/sec for download/upload to the iPAQ. This was proving to be costly as the earlier package required MS Access for database. The software was ported to Linux (RedHat 7.2) platform. The source code was in C. The GUI was made with the help of qt libraries. The database was maintained in MySql. The software was enhanced to incorporate the scales which were using USB port instead of RS 232 in normal scales . Thus the software could automate scales using either RS232 or USB interface. The data handling capacity was enhanced to 200000 as compared to 100,000 in the earlier version. Role : Project Leader Responsibility : 1. Designed and Coded in C 2. Project Management 3. Provided Hardware specification to others Duration : From : May 2002 To : December 2002 Hardware : PIII based PC, electronic scale with provision for RS 232 Communication, Load Cell Software : gcc compiler, gdb debugger, RedHat 7.2 3. Company worked for : IIT Kanpur Duration : July 2000 to April 2002 Project Name Control and Instrumentation of a Baum Jig Client Dept of Science and Tech., Govt of India Description of the project Jigging is a process of washing coal which helps in segregating good quality coal. Modern sensors were used in this jig. These included pressure transducers, level sensors, solenoid valves and nucleonic density gauge connected to a PC through a ISA DAQ Card. Taking the output of these sensors a control system was developed which is capable of giving a wide range of frequency and amplitude of the vibration of water column filled with coal. The program was developed in VC++. The program searches for optimum frequency and amplitude for best segregation of coal. Role : M.Tech. Student Responsibility : 1. Designed and coded. 2. Made reports to be sent to GoI. 3. Maintenance of Hardware and dealing vendors. Load cell is attached with the bridge which send signal to a scale which has a port for RS232 serial communication. The scale is attached with a PC which takes the data through serial port. Duration : July 1998 to April 1999 Project Name Development of a Level and Temperature Controller Using Fuzzy Logic Client Dept of Science and Tech., Govt of India Description of the project Level and temperature control is used in many industrial applications. The problem was to design a controller which can handle level and temperature simultaneously. A temperature sensor, a level sensor and 2 turbo motor were attached to a DAQ Card in a PC. Hot water was poured manually in a tank and the controller mixed some cold water and drained some water to maintain a constant level and temperature. Role : Project Associate Responsibility : 1.
